Surrender A Pet
If you have a pet you can no longer care for and need to surrender, please call the shelter ahead of time (recommended 2 to 4 weeks ahead) to make arrangements. As our rate of successful adoption for dogs is high, we are usually able to take surrendered dogs as the need arises. A waiting list is almost always utilized for surrendered pet cats, as our number of cat intakes is quite high.
The surrender lists are used due to space restraints, as Arnell accepts surrendered pets on a space available basis. Your pet will be placed on a surrender waiting list. Pets from Polk County are given first priority.
As kennel space becomes available, you will be called to bring your pet in to the shelter, in the order your name was placed on the list. This procedure ensures your pet an available kennel and the shelter the ability to better help your pet find a new home.
A financial donation in the amount you can afford is required for each pet surrendered. Each pet brought to Arnell costs our organization approximately $100 to find a new home. We understand that not everyone is able to cover this entire amount and that is why we ask for an amount you can afford be donated toward the cost of finding your pet a new home. We also ask that you bring any veterinary medical records your pet may have at the time of surrender.
If you are able to find a suitable home for your pet before you are called, please call us at 715-268-7387 to let us know that you will no longer need to surrender your pet.
